trans_advice is a community for all transsexuals, transgender folks, genderqueers, genderfucks, gender-variants, FTMs, MTFs, M2Ms, F2Fs, bigendered peeps, drag queens and kings, crossdressers and transvestites, and probably for people with identities I haven't heard of yet, too. Oh, and our friends, families, partners, and fuckbuds. It's a community where you can ask straight-up questions about gender, sex, health, relationships and more and get straight-up answers from people like you and probably from people who are totally different than you, too. Two things, though:
REQUESTS FOR ADVICE ONLY
This is an advice community. You ask a question pertaining to you and something that is going on in your life, and the rest of the community gives you feedback. That's how it works. There are plenty of other trans livejournal communities for general discussion and debate. It's okay to disagree with someone's advice and say so, but keep it on-topic.
Intro posts, links to articles, posts that are links to things on your own journal, posts that are links to events/conferences/etc. are all well and good, but they must be accompanied by a question or a request for advice.
BAD: "Did you guys see that trans dude/lady on Oprah yesterday? S/he sucks!" "I think transgenders give transsexuals a bad name! And I'm here to rant about it!" "I'd like to promote an irrelevant community! Check it ooout!" "Hi, I'm Genderwolf, and [insert life story here]. Just saying hi!" "Check out this article! It's so fucked up!"
GOOD: "I'm dating a girl/guy and s/he doesn't know I'm trans. How do I come out to him/her?" "I'm not sure what's going on with my gender. Some days I feel more like a boy, and some days I feel more like a girl. What's up with that?" "I'm having trouble packing/binding/tucking/spackle-ing/injecting/aspirating. WTF how do you do this?" "Hi, I'm Genderwolf, and [insert life story, behind a lj-cut]. I just got dumped! What do I do?" "Check out this article about how to find a job if you're trans. I'm looking for a job right now, and here's my situation. Does anyone have any advice?"
Non-advice-related posts are subject to deletion if not promptly revised.
PLAY NICE, PLZ
One of the goals of this community is to bring together as many diverse opinions as possible, and as such, disagreement is inevitable. Try as best you can to show some basic respect for people and their sense of identity. However far-flung it may seem to you, it's important to them. And racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ableism, sizeism and all other forms of assholeism? Booo.
Other than that, have fun and try not to bust any heads.
Promote away! It takes a village to raise a transsexual. And while you're at it, check out our sister and brother communities: suckitupdyke, brainchild of the talented and lovely proletariat, and whateverfaggot, created by the dashing and erudite scotty2naughty.
For now, this community is maintained by gender_euphoric, so comment to him if you have a problem or concern or would like to promote a community or are having technical problems.
